Beacon: Day trip

Last weekend I took a trip to Beacon, a small cozy village an hour from New York City. Beacon has much to offer for a small day trip with its cozy cafes, small intimate shops and a charming city life. I found a bit of peace and tranquility here, and it was lovely to hear the leaves flutter in the wind for once. It does not happen often in the Big Apple.
The day was perfect for a little stroll with sunshine and a pleasant temperature.

Bare en time unna NYC med tog ligger Beacon-Beacon is just an hour train ride from NYC.

I arrived after a comfertable train ride, and immediately went in the direction of the city center. They have one main street, the artery so to speak of the city that that is perfect for a stroll. Here you will find a variety of shops selling all sorts of things as well as a few restaurants. I especially liked the shops that were selling their own designed products.

Tilogmed postkontoret hadde sin egen koselige bygning/ Even the post office was a charmful little house

After my walk down the main street in Beacon I found myself a sweet, little cafe where I could sit down with a glass of wine and something to fill my stomach with. Ella’s Bellas is a cafe serving a range of drinks, bakery goods and some small dishes for lunch, including white wine and gluten free spinach pai.

I sat down and enjoyed the fact that the cafe was not crowded with pretentious hipsters and that you didn´t have to wait 10 minutes before getting a table. Yes, I live in New York City 😉

Beacon is also known for its many antique shops, which was more than fine with me as I have a great fascination for old things.

After lunch I walked to Dia: Beacon, a pretty impressive art museum exhibiting contemporary art. It was lovely to wander around in Beacon’s neighborhoods and be able to enjoy without having to rush from place to place.

After having spent a few hours at the museum, I took the train back to Manhattan and home to a completely different landscape with its own charm. If you are in New York City and need a little break from the yellow cabs, tourists and New Yorkers and your pulse needs to go down a few notches Beacon can certainly be recommended. It´s truly a precious little place.
